यह एक बहुत ही रोचक कहानी है जिसे एकल के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया गया है। कहानी में शिकायतकर्ता घासीराम है। मोहन उसका बेटा है और अपराधी कांचेड़ी है। नेताजी और मास्टरजी को गवाह के तौर पर पेश किया गया है। कहानी घासीराम के गधे को चुराने की है। घासीराम ने गधे की चोरी की घटना को पंचायत के सामने रखा और उससे न्याय की गुहार लगाई। पंचों के सामने न्याय तक पहुंचना मुश्किल हो गया क्योंकि मास्टरजी और नेताजी जैसे गवाह भी घासीराम के खिलाफ हो गए। घासीराम ने न्याय पाने की उम्मीद खो दी और उन्होंने पंचायत छोड़ना शुरू कर दिया। लेकिन तभी सारा माहौल बदल गया जब घासीराम के बेटे ने एक गधे को पेश किया। यह साबित हो गया है कि कांचेड़ी अपराधी है और मास्टरजी और नेताजी ने झूठी गवाही दी है। अंत में यह सिद्ध होता है कि विशेष परिस्थितियों में गधे की कीमत मनुष्य से अधिक होती है। यह कहानी आज के समय पर एक गहरा व्यंग्य है, जो हमें यह भी सिखाती है कि आदमी झूठ बोल सकता है लेकिन जानवर कभी झूठ नहीं बोल सकता।
